Only One Month to Go to the Shout Out Against Mining Injustice

Registration is now open for Shout Out Against Mining Injustice and spots are filling up quickly!

This two-day international conference, which will be held in Vancouver June 1 and 2, is aimed at exposing the appalling environmental and human rights abuses of Canadian mining companies. Through workshops, panel discussions and strategy sessions, we will raise awareness about the impacts of mining companies in Canada and abroad.

We will share and build resistance tools and strengthen our networks of solidarity to combat the devastating effects these companies have on water, land and on people’s health.

This important two-day event begins with a riveting public forum on Friday, June 1 at 7 p.m. at the Maritime Labour Centre, featuring speakers who will present an evening of discussion and share real-life stories of the struggles against the corporate mining of their communities.

Keynote speakers include:

Maude Barlow, National Chairperson, the Council of Canadians
Chief Marilyn Baptiste, Chief, Xeni Gwet’in First Nation, Tsilhqot’in National Government
Rodolfo Arteaga, member, Comité Regional Ambientalista, Valle de Siria, Honduras
Leovigildo Vásquez Sánchez, member, Coordinadora de Pueblos Unidos del Valle de Ocotlan(CPUVO), México

Doors for the public forum open at 6:00 p.m. with events getting underway at 7:00 p.m. Admission to the public forum is a suggested donation of $20, or what you can afford. All donations will be used to help offset conference costs.

On Saturday, June 2, join us at the Harbour Centre at Simon Fraser University for a day-long teach-in where discussion panels and workshops will help broaden your understanding of this growing international issue. The day will be filled with engaging sessions with leading activists and representatives from mining-impacted communities in Chile, Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras, Ecuador, El Salvador and Canada. Guest speakers will talk about the devastating effects mining has on land, water and air, and together, we will look at ways we can all take action to demand better accountability and oversight from our governments, and ways to end these water and human rights abuses.
